emily.weiss.photography.photoblog bio picture

Hello!

Welcome! My name is Emily and I am a wife, a mother, a photographer, a short order cook, a chauffeur, a locator of lost shoes, expert splinter remover, master Lego builder, and proficient a host of other talents that are really only needed if you have small children.

I live in Washington, DC with my husband, who keeps me laughing, and my two boys who keep me honest. My blog is where I post about my most recent sessions; show off my personal work, and ramble on about my life or anything that strikes my fancy. Poke around, check it out and if you find something interesting let me know by leaving me some blog “love”.

My Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday.  I am not a big birthday kind of gal.  My birthday is so close to the Holidays that by the time it rolls around most folks are DONE with parties, presents, and any kind of “festivities”.  Generally it is a muted affair, which for most of my life has really been a bummer.  I hated that no one wanted to make a stink for my birthday.  But now that I am so “old”, I am glad to just spend the day with my family and feel loved.

This year is kind of a big one, a big decade marker.  I had a great day at home, went for a nice long run and made my own cake that tasted just like Duncan Hines but was totally from scratch.   Then my husband surprised me with an amazing gift.  After all these years he can still make my heart sing.

And because I cant end a post without a picture here is one me and my little one.  It it totally out of focus, but I have so few of me and my boys that it does not matter.

ProPhoto Blog: Giving is Awesome

For all you photographers out there who are visiting my site via the ProPhoto2 Blog page…

First, I want to say that the Jared’s new theme ROCKS!!  I started with ProPhoto 1 and was a beta tester for ProPhoto2…and he really has out done himself.   ProPhoto2 is so user friendly, easy, and you really don’t need to know a thing about code, CSS stylesheets, plugins, or widgets.  It is all built right in.

Second, I did not realize that as a beta tester for his theme,  I would get a discount code to pass along AND that I would receive a little “kick back” from those that used my discount code.  So that was a nice Holiday surprise.  And seeing as it is the season of giving, and Giving is Awesome...I want to give a little “kick back” to my local community.   I like to keep my donations in my community,  just like the work I have done for Girls on the Run, it makes me feel like a better community citizen and a better human being.

If you use discount code EWEISS232 to purchase ProPhoto2, I will donate any monies I get in return to my favorite local charity Bright Beginnings Child Development Center.  Bright Beginnings provides free, safe, and developmentally appropriate child care to children in homeless families in Washington, DC.  Bright Beginnings serves about 186 children annually whose families are living in crisis shelters or transitional housing. Bright Beginnings takes a holistic approach to meeting the special needs of homeless families with young children and has developed a comprehensive program to include educational, therapeutic and family support services.

So make you life easier…get ProPhoto2, help homeless children get quality childcare, and use my code!

And if you have any questions…feel free to email me or leave me some blog love!

Girls on the Run - The Slide Show and Prints!

I have been looking at this slide show for three days, editing, tweaking and re-arranging the photographs to best tell the story of this 5K race.

Maybe it is the time of year, the fact it is almost the Holidays, or maybe I am the biggest sap there is.  This brings me to tears every time I watch it.

If you don’t see a photograph of yourself, or your child in the slide show don’t worry!  Paige and I shot over  over 500 photographs from the race.

After watching the show go to  http://www.digiproofs.com/GOTR PASSWORD: GOTR to view and purchase  race day photographs.

As the Holidays are upon us and I look back at what I have done over the year, and what I have done to be a better community citizen…I am so grateful that two of my former clients (who are now my friends) asked me to donate my time and services to a group that is all about giving young girls the tools to develop into strong and confident young women.  Isnt that what being a parent and a conscientious person in the world is all  about?

Girls on the Run - More photos

I am half way through editing and had to share a few more of my favorites thus far.  Paige and I are working really hard to get all the photos ready and will announce on our blogs when they are ready for viewing and purchase.  You will be able to view and purchase race day photographs at http://www.digiproofs.com/GOTR PASSWORD: GOTR

And some sunflare!

I loved watching the parents on the sidelines cheering their girls on.  They warmed up this chilly morning with their enthusiasm and heart.
