Thanksgiving

I have lots to be thankful for this year. I think I am like most parents: when my children are happy, I am happy. I feel so fortunate to live with these really interesting kids who are kooky, silly, and just a blast to be with. It does not matter what my house looks like, how much my bathroom does or does not smell like pee, how well or not our businesses are doing…when the kids are OK, life is beautiful.

We had a great weekend at home seeing family, spending time with friends, and just being together. Hope all of you (my faithful few readers) had a great Holiday.

I love these turkey hand prints. A childhood rite of passage. Eli did his the old fashioned way and Cal did his on the computer. I love how Cal’s school teaches writing…they let the kids sound it out so we see some cool creative spelling.

Thanks Uncle Ed for spending Thanksgiving with us, playing football, and for your incredible pumpkin pie…we cant stop talking about it!

Haircut

My first rule in parenting is that if you are about to throw your head against a brick wall…something has to change. I used to cut my kids hair. I had this romantic notion of repeating this memory from my own childhood of sitting on the front steps, getting my hair cut and then getting a lollipop. I tried to repeat this little fantasy of mine. I failed miserably. Instead creating this sweet memory for my kids I manged to turn a haircut into this high anxiety induced affair complete with yelling, screaming, massive amounts of whining, and making myself and my children miserable. They would classify a haircut from mom as cruel and unusual punishment.

So I gave up the ghost. Now we make an afternoon of going to this sweet little barbershop where the men are older enough to be my grandfather and and stop at McDonald’s on the way home. Sounds pretty sweet to me.

Halloween

I am slacker mom and proud of it. I know there are moms out there that feel the need to release their inner Martha Stewart and make an elaborate costume for their kids. Not me. I am happy to skip off to Target and find the cheapest costume I can corral my kids in to wearing. I have found other ways in which to release my Martha Stewart…you should have seen the alligator birthday cake I made for Cal one year. So here they are in their glorious store bought costumes.

Eli in his “recycled” Power Ranger costume…probably should have spot cleaned this before we set out

Cal in his ninja costume…cost me less than $1o

Cal without the hood, cant miss an opportunity to capture his amazing steel blue eyes

And the vanity “W” pumpkin to match the vanity “W” we have on the sports court in the back yard
