Home for the Holidays

We are home  bodies the  four of us.  We can sit and putter in the house for days.  And we love that we do not go anywhere for the Holidays.  Here are some of the things we have been up to at home this week…

Donna Anderson - I always love seeing the boys. I’m glad you are having a wonderful break with your family.

ProPhoto Blog: Giving is Awesome

For all you photographers out there who are visiting my site via the ProPhoto2 Blog page…

First, I want to say that the Jared’s new theme ROCKS!!  I started with ProPhoto 1 and was a beta tester for ProPhoto2…and he really has out done himself.   ProPhoto2 is so user friendly, easy, and you really don’t need to know a thing about code, CSS stylesheets, plugins, or widgets.  It is all built right in.

Second, I did not realize that as a beta tester for his theme,  I would get a discount code to pass along AND that I would receive a little “kick back” from those that used my discount code.  So that was a nice Holiday surprise.  And seeing as it is the season of giving, and Giving is Awesome...I want to give a little “kick back” to my local community.   I like to keep my donations in my community,  just like the work I have done for Girls on the Run, it makes me feel like a better community citizen and a better human being.

If you use discount code EWEISS232 to purchase ProPhoto2, I will donate any monies I get in return to my favorite local charity Bright Beginnings Child Development Center.  Bright Beginnings provides free, safe, and developmentally appropriate child care to children in homeless families in Washington, DC.  Bright Beginnings serves about 186 children annually whose families are living in crisis shelters or transitional housing. Bright Beginnings takes a holistic approach to meeting the special needs of homeless families with young children and has developed a comprehensive program to include educational, therapeutic and family support services.

So make you life easier…get ProPhoto2, help homeless children get quality childcare, and use my code!

And if you have any questions…feel free to email me or leave me some blog love!

December 24, 2008 - 10:28 am

Nicole - I love your site and your photos. I have been doing photography on the side for almost 10 years, but have never had the confidence to jump into it full-time. I have recently begun considering it again, now that I have a 4-month-old child.

I used to only do on-location shoots like you, but built a studio in my basement because of constant requests for more “studio-like” portraits. I miss doing just on-location. Kids are so much more fun in their natural habitat!

I just wanted to jot down a note and say hi and let you know that I love your work! It is inspirational.

Girls on the Run – The Slide Show and Prints!

I have been looking at this slide show for three days, editing, tweaking and re-arranging the photographs to best tell the story of this 5K race.

Maybe it is the time of year, the fact it is almost the Holidays, or maybe I am the biggest sap there is.  This brings me to tears every time I watch it.

If you don’t see a photograph of yourself, or your child in the slide show don’t worry!  Paige and I shot over  over 500 photographs from the race.

After watching the show go to  http://www.digiproofs.com/GOTR PASSWORD: GOTR to view and purchase  race day photographs.

As the Holidays are upon us and I look back at what I have done over the year, and what I have done to be a better community citizen…I am so grateful that two of my former clients (who are now my friends) asked me to donate my time and services to a group that is all about giving young girls the tools to develop into strong and confident young women.  Isnt that what being a parent and a conscientious person in the world is all  about?

March 26, 2009 - 12:50 pm

Chuck Carver - Emily,
Great slideshow, you and Paige took some wonderful photos. It looks like a wonderful race and a great way to involve the kids. The 30 degrees is nothing if you are from up here in Minnesota, its when you put a minus sign before it that we start to complain about the cold ;<{ ).
May I ask what you used to put together the slide show with. I am looking to do one for a Habitat for Humanity project that I am going to be starting in a couple of weeks.

E - Thank you so much – tears me up as well – and this time its not because of the bitter cold blowing at us
If these girls can do a 5k in 30 degree cold they can do anything

Sarah Boone - Emily and Paige—this is masterful….thank you so much for being a part of this special day for GOTR!

And some sunflare!

I loved watching the parents on the sidelines cheering their girls on.  They warmed up this chilly morning with their enthusiasm and heart.

Girls on the Run – December Race Day

There is only one word that can describe the the Girls on the Run – DC Wondergirl 5K race: C-O-L-D! We had a high of 25 and a wind chill in the the teens.  BRRRR!!

But the cold and windy weather did not dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of this amazing event.  Once again I left feeling inspired and in complete awe of the girls who ran it, and the parents who got up so early in the cold and cheered on.   These girls really are amazing.  I only know a few, as my son’s school has a team that runs (Go Hoppers!), but I feel so proud of all of them.  I was on the brink of tears as I watched them through my view finder approach the finish line.  I left feeling warm at heart and grateful I get to be a part of this great organization.

Paige and I are working to get all the race day photographs uploaded for purchase as soon as possible.  Folks will be able to view and purchase race day photographs at  http://www.digiproofs.com/GOTR Password: GOTR I will post here on my blog when they are ready as well a post with the slideshow. Sign up for email alerts or bookmark my blog so you are know when they go live!

Also make sure to check out the incredible photographs Paige was able to capture on her blog HERE.
