The magic of snow

Most school day mornings at our house are a BEAR.  Cal must be AT school by 8.  We are never on time.  Never.  In my humble opinion, 8 am is neither a dignified hour nor a time in which you can expect one to be functioning…at least not if your name ends with Weiss.

Today I woke Cal for school by telling him it was snowing.  This kid dressed, scarfed down a bowl of cereal, and was out in the snow in 15 minutes flat!  What a kook!

Lee - Love the shot!! My kids can break land speed records getting out to the snow but turn into molasses in Vermont during a normal weekday morning. Like me.

tony - Great photo! Snow is one of these things that make us all feel like kids inside. It’s pure and natural. It brings a sense of fresh and clean. I love the snow but I’m glad I don’t live in it. Keep up the good work.

Donna Anderson - They really love the snow. Snow is a much better reason to get out of bed.

Amazing

I know that there are thousand of newspapers, magazines and blogs out there trying to sum up yesterday.  And many will do it more justice than I.

Regardless if you voted for Barack Obama, or if you believe he can change our country, or if you think he can lead us out of two wars and out of this disastrous economy, or rebuild our reputation in the world, or do all the things that have been hoped for…to watch Barack Obama become President of the United States was amazing.  To watch the transfer of power take place in peace, with joy and massive celebration was amazing.  To know that this happens every four years without any guns or violence is amazing.  To know that we, the people, elect our leaders of our own free will is amazing.  To witness over 2 million people come to DC for this event, to want to be here, to brave the elements and the crowds because they HAD to be here was amazing.  To feel that we really are are the land of the free AND the brave is amazing.

Amazing.

If you were not one of the lucky ones who had a ticket AND a babysitter, you were like us watching on TV.  My friend  Donna gave me a photo challenge yesterday.  She challenged me to take a photo of my kids while watching the inauguration and post it on my blog.  I was going to do it anyway but I am glad she made it a challenge, because now my children will have a photograph of themselves to commemorate where they were on what I believe to be the most amazing day.

My Birthday

Yesterday was my birthday.  I am not a big birthday kind of gal.  My birthday is so close to the Holidays that by the time it rolls around most folks are DONE with parties, presents, and any kind of “festivities”.  Generally it is a muted affair, which for most of my life has really been a bummer.  I hated that no one wanted to make a stink for my birthday.  But now that I am so “old”, I am glad to just spend the day with my family and feel loved.

This year is kind of a big one, a big decade marker.  I had a great day at home, went for a nice long run and made my own cake that tasted just like Duncan Hines but was totally from scratch.   Then my husband surprised me with an amazing gift.  After all these years he can still make my heart sing.

And because I cant end a post without a picture here is one me and my little one.  It it totally out of focus, but I have so few of me and my boys that it does not matter.
