Fantastic at Five

My Eli turned 5 today.   He really is my heart.  Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would love a child like I love this one.

We started the birthday weekend off yesterday with a treat in the classroom.  His preschool has this wonderful way of teaching the kids what a birthday is all about.  His teachers put 12 place cards with each month in a circle on the floor.  In the center they put a candle to represent the sun.  On your birthday you stand in front of the month in which you were born, hold a globe, and then walk around the circle for each your you are old.   It really helps a young child visualize what it means to be one year older.

Today he took the day off from school, we made mac and cheese for lunch and baked his birthday cake.

And the obligatory birthday portrait. Yes that is cake batter in his hair.  I left him to lick the bowl and the only explanation that makes sense is that he put his whole face in it.  Five really is fantastic.
