Sometime you don’t need a fancy pool, or a hot-tub, or a slip ‘n slide. You don’t need anything high-tech or electronic. Sometimes the making of an afternoon, when you have run out of ideas of what to do with your kids, can be found in the backyard hose and the thing you water the grass with.
While shooting this event I often have to remind myself to keep shooting and stop cheering. Because every images of every girl is a story in itself. These girls work so hard all year to finish a 5K. It is is extraordinary thing. I am so proud I get to help them tell their story.
So here it is the slideshow!! Always my favorite and the hardest part of capturing this event. It is never easy to edit down over 600 photographs to the best 170 plus.
Be patient: depending on your internet connection it might stop and start. But just give it a minute. It should load and play all the way through. If that does not work, stop the show, wait for the big grey bar at the bottom (between the controls) to fill up, then start from the beginning. And if that still does not do it for you, email me and I will send you another link to try. Technology is awesome, when it decides to work
Don’t forget PRINTS! If you did not see yourself, your child, or your friend in the show check out all the race day photographs at our online print house at:
Molly Barker-Founder of Girls on the Run-Oh my Gosh!!! This photos are beautiful…just like the girls, women, moms, dads, volunteers in the event. Thank you Emily for capturing what rests at the core of our program…strength, wonder, courage and belief in ourselves!!!

alicia -these pics are amazing – and what an inspiring event!!
Once again I had the honor to photograph the Girls On The Run DC (GOTR) 5K at West Potomac Park today, May 10, 2009 on Mother’s Day!
This is my big charity “thing”. I don’t really make any money by doing this but honestly, I don’t care. I love being a part of this group. I love being able to give something back to my community. I love to watch these girls as they come down the finish line. It is a joy to get up at the crack of dawn and spend the morning with all these awesome volunteers, Mothers (and Fathers) and the runners. This is the way to start Mothers Day!
There were over 700 runners registered, and my awesome team of photographers were able to capture as many of them as we could. This year I brought back Paige Pearson of Simple Expressions Photography and I also recruited Suzanne Behsudi of Suzanne Behsudi Photography. We have a busy week ahead of us to edit and prepare all the photographs.
UPDATE: Paige just posted some of her awesome images HERE and Suzanne just posted her preview on her blog HERE
Be sure to check back for more highlights and the slideshow!
All the the race day photographs will be online at:http://www.digiproofs.com/GOTR PASSWORD: GOTR. NO later than May29th (hopefully sooner!)
While I start the process of editing…here are my round of favorites
