My boy can ride…finally

Cal has been a bit slow on learning how to ride a bike (without training wheels).   In part because we did not push it and we always had another excuse/activity planned for the weekend.  And frankly we got lazy. But we were at the point where it was bordering on the embarrassing that he still could not ride a bike.  He is 8 after all.

So this summer my No. 1 goal  was to have Cal riding a bike.   There are a few select moments in parenting where you are not just proud of your kid, but you are proud of yourself too because you did what you had to do to enable your child to succeed.    Yesterday Cal figured out how to ride a bike.  Just like with reading and swimming,  it is as if someone flipped on the switch.  One moment he was scared to have me let go of the back of the bike.  And then I did.  He was riding off down the street all on his own.

It was one of the proudest moments as his mom.

Jackie - Reading your moms point of view description about about Cal learning to rise a bike is seriously bringing a tear to my eye. Yay Cal!

Laurel Housden - Thanks for giving me some inspiration…My 7 year old can’t ride a bike…for the same reasons you shared…I think Friday is the day I close down the computer….dust off the bike and hat…and take my son to the park!
