My favorite part of this event is putting together the slideshow. I cant wait for all the photographers to get me their images, to see how they saw the day, and then put it altogether as a visual story that represents the day and hope I do it justice.
A special shout out to the other photographers who took some amazing photographs Stephen Laico and Matthew D Lyons.
And this also means that all the photographs are ready for viewing here http://www.digiproofs.com/EmilyWeiss/

Great pictures! It is amazing to see the emotions and hard work of these kids. My daughter run too and it is a great event! Thankx.
Emily,
I saw the whole race but didn’t see the entire picture. You do, and its timeless. You captivate those who see your pictures and your slideshow, and you capture the spirit of the program.

The pics and video brought tears to my eyes!! I can’t tell how amazing and powerful these images are – and for those of us trying to manage the chaos behind the scenes and missed seeing the girls, the slide show is a perfect reminder of why we were so manic!!
I can’t thank you enough for all of your hard work!!
One word for the Girls on the Run 5K today: WET! But it did not dampen the spirit, enthusiasm, and determination of these girls and their parents/run buddies/coaches. You know they worked so hard to get here. You can see it in their faces. This moment is huge, to finish is amazing, to see all the hard work pay off is exhilarating.
EDITED: Come view all the Race Day photos at: http://www.digiproofs.com/ecom/g.pl

This was my 5th time photographing this race and was my coldest, wettest, darkish conditions to date. But I loved every minute of it. Looking at these photographs, looking at their faces…these girls inspire me.
More photos to come!

A few weekends back my industrious neighbor Miss “A” wanted to help the Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL) raise some money. They were in need of a new roof and had just sent a mass email to their supporters for help. It just so happened that my neighbors have adopted several animals from the WARL, chief among them was their beloved dog Sasha. Sasha was a bit of a miracle dog on our block. She was blind, survived cancer and had diabetes yet defeated every one of her grim diagnoses and lived to the rip old age of 13. So the WARL holds a special place in their hearts.
So when the WARL sent out a call for funds “A” decided to host a charity car wash to help. She charged $10 a car and .$50 for lemonade and popsicles. After three days car washes over two weekends, 7 volunteers (not including her parents), a box of freeze pops from Costco, and countless glasses of lemonade she raised a total $684.00. Not bad considering her volunteers would down two glasses of lemonade and eat two Popsicle for every car they washed

Awesome pictures Emily! Thanks for writing the blog too. I love reading about what we did.

My photography was chosen to be featured at The Full Cup in Alexandria, VA for the month of May to celebrate mothers and children. I am much honored to have been selected and it would mean a great deal to me to have my good friends and clients, who have inspired me, to be there to support me and the charitable work of The Full Cup. On display are framed fine art pieces and canvases of my favorite photographs.
Please join me for a “Meet the Photographer” night at the Full Cup in Alexandra, VA on Thursday May 20th from 6-8 pm.
The Full Cup is a full service European-style bra fitting salon that believes strongly in supporting and celebrating women-owned small businesses and does extensive charity work with homeless women’s shelters and Suited for Change.
I look forward to seeing you all on the 20th and please consider donating a new or gently used bra during the event to be entered to win a complementary photo session.

Your work is beautiful, its no wonder you were selected to be featured.
Congratulations, Emily! I hope you have a fabulous night on Thursday!
Thinking back on the day of the GOTR 5K at the National Arboretum, I was a bit out of sorts. I was cold and wet and covered in mud, my camera had fogged up more time than I could count, my makeshift rain coat for my camera was toast, I had been yelled at by a few parents (guess I was in their way) in a nutshell I was GRUMPY. Typically, at the GOTR 5K, my adrenaline is pumping and the spirit of the girls and what they are doing erases what minor discomforts or technical difficulties I may have. So it was a blessing that I had to put this shoot away for a few days to focus on other things. I needed to step away and come back to it with a fresh set of eyes.
A week later as I sat at my computer and poured over the photos one by one, I saw what I knew was there. I just had to look. I saw that spark, that thing that I find so inspiring and amazing.
Depending on your internet connection it might take a moment to fully load (check the progress bar on the lower right), so just be patient. Otherwise click on this link http://www.emilyweissphotography.com/webshow/GOTR4/

I just wanted to tell you that I thought the pictures were wonderful. I came across this as I was checking out the program for my own daughter. It brought tears to my eyes, just watching the young women and imagining my daughter completing such an event for herself. My daughter heard the music playing as I was watching the slideshow and she says “I want a picture with me running.” So now I guess, we will be there at the next GOTR event. Thank you for the images.
I found myself giggling loudly as I watched this slideshow…the joy of completing something that is really challenging…you captured it beautifully.
Thank you…despite the challenges of logistics etc…this makes me willing to take it on again next year!
Awesome images Emily!
It was a wet, cold and rainy Sunday morning but it did not dampen the spirits of the girls who came out to run off their excess candy consumption for the Girls on the Run-DC 5K! This was a first for me shooting in the pouring rain. Thank goodness the great folks at Canon make a camera that can withstand the elements.
As always this is such a great event and the enthusiasm and supports is what helps propel the girls to the finish line. Here a a few of my favorites

Race day prints will be ready on (or before) Novemner 11 and can be purchased at http://www.digiproofs.com/GOTR1109/ Password GOTR.

You can even make the rain look beautiful!
Awesome shots Emily! I”m sorry I missed it.

Once again I had the honor to photograph the Girls On The Run DC (GOTR) 5K at West Potomac Park today, May 10, 2009 on Mother’s Day!
This is my big charity “thing”. I don’t really make any money by doing this but honestly, I don’t care. I love being a part of this group. I love being able to give something back to my community. I love to watch these girls as they come down the finish line. It is a joy to get up at the crack of dawn and spend the morning with all these awesome volunteers, Mothers (and Fathers) and the runners. This is the way to start Mothers Day!
There were over 700 runners registered, and my awesome team of photographers were able to capture as many of them as we could. This year I brought back Paige Pearson of Simple Expressions Photography and I also recruited Suzanne Behsudi of Suzanne Behsudi Photography. We have a busy week ahead of us to edit and prepare all the photographs.
UPDATE: Paige just posted some of her awesome images HERE and Suzanne just posted her preview on her blog HERE
Be sure to check back for more highlights and the slideshow!
All the the race day photographs will be online at:http://www.digiproofs.com/GOTR PASSWORD: GOTR. NO later than May29th (hopefully sooner!)
While I start the process of editing…here are my round of favorites
