The beach…on film

Miss A

A few weekends back my industrious neighbor Miss “A” wanted to help the Washington Animal Rescue League (WARL) raise some money.  They were in need of a new roof and had just sent a mass email to their supporters for help.  It just so happened that my neighbors have adopted several animals from the WARL, chief among them was their beloved dog Sasha.  Sasha was a bit of a miracle dog on our block.  She was blind, survived cancer and had diabetes yet defeated every one of her grim diagnoses and lived to the rip old age of 13. So the WARL holds a special place in their hearts.

So when the WARL sent out a call for funds “A” decided to host a charity car wash to help. She  charged $10 a car and .$50 for lemonade and popsicles.  After three days car washes over two weekends, 7 volunteers (not including her parents), a box of freeze pops from Costco, and countless glasses of lemonade she raised a total $684.00.  Not bad considering her volunteers would down two glasses of lemonade and eat two Popsicle for every car they washed;-)

Emma - i think i know her GREAT pictures

Emma - Awesome pictures Emily! Thanks for writing the blog too. I love reading about what we did.

My Weekends

Until the end of the school year my weekends are filled with two things.

Saturday is lost to a soccer field.  This appears to be a DC tradition if you happen to parent a school age child.  Saturday mornings we each pick a kid and schlep out to a soccer field for an hour.  It is actually a lovely tradition, and even though we all complain bitterly while we are in the midst of it, we all secretly love it (even when we lose).

And Sundays are for lounging…

or for attacking the gnats with your sword and a spatula :-)

Portia - Errol Flynn in spiderman/pirate pajamas fights to the death with spatula. Totally whimsical. Love it.

life with kaishon - That looks like a perfect weekend! Especially the attacking of the gnats :) I am not too far away from you (Philly) and we totally have those gnats too! ICK!

I {heart} Film

I am one of “those” guys.  A digital shooter who has decided to pull out a film camera and see what happens. For now just classic black and white film.

I forgot how much I LOVE the beautiful grain, the tones and the simplicity of film.

matthew - i love it. i loaned one of my film cameras to a friend’s son who was taking a photography class. when he returned the camera, i popped in a roll of b&w film and i’ve been playing around with it. your images inspire me to do more with the medium. great work!

life with kaishon - Sometimes I shoot a roll just for the grain! And for the pickup! It is SO exciting to pick up the pictures and look thru them! I love that feeling!

Beth - Very nice!

Paige - Love them!

A show!

My photography was chosen to be featured at The Full Cup in Alexandria, VA for the month of May to celebrate mothers and children. I am much honored to have been selected and it would mean a great deal to me to have my good friends and clients, who have inspired me, to be there to support me and the charitable work of The Full Cup.   On display are framed fine art pieces and canvases of my favorite photographs.

Please join me for a “Meet the Photographer” night at the Full Cup in Alexandra, VA on Thursday May 20th from 6-8 pm.

The Full Cup is a full service European-style bra fitting salon that believes strongly in supporting and celebrating women-owned small businesses and does extensive charity work with homeless women’s shelters and Suited for Change.

I look forward to seeing you all on the 20th and please consider donating a new or gently used bra during the event to be entered to win a complementary photo session.

Toothless

Eli came home from school wiggling, and wiggling and wiggling his first loose tooth

just in time for bed, he wiggled it out!  I love a toothless grin.

Christa - How exciting! Toothless grins are always a favorite for me, too! (Cute wiggly pics – he was determined!!) :-)

nine

He now has an expander and will soon have braces.  I embarrass him, but still loves me to tuck and kiss him goodnight, and sit in the dark to just talk.   He is really into music, now owns and iPod, and loves Green Day, Kaiser Chiefs, and the Clash.  He is an avid reader (thank goodness!) and will stay up way too late with a book.  He has become a big sports fanatic, like his dad, for the Redskins and Caps.   He knows some choice curse words (my bad) and will try them out every now and again;  potty humor and fart jokes crack him up.  He thinks girls are from another planet and covers his eyes with great fan fare when there is any kind of romantic kissing.  He can be moody, cantankerous, and an absolute joy all within the span of 15 minuets. He is gangly, has the stinkiest feet, eats like a line backer, and grows out of clothes and shoes every 4 months.

He is just nine.

Six is Sno-tastic!

Once again someone in our family got a little more than they bargained for on their birthday;-)
