Emily Weiss Photography Blog bio picture
  • Thanks for visiting!

Hi I’m Emily. I am a Washington, DC fine art child and family photographer. I am the photographer for families that are looking beyond the perfectly posed portrait in your “Sunday Best” and want something more spirited, authentic, and artistically captures you real life. My favorite clients are adventurous, fun-loving, quirky, and have a desire to showcase that unique spirit in photographically artistic ways.

This blog is where I post my most recent sessions with clients, commercial assignments, my charitable photo projects and my personal photo projects. In additional I want to help parents display and take photos of their kids. I strongly believe that all kids deserve to feel like they are heard and seen int he world, and a great way to do that is through photography.

My hope is that by reading my posts and viewing my work you will see my creative viewpoint and think of me when searching for a photographer to help you create art of your child and family. Or maybe you will pick up on a technique or way of seeing that enables you to capture your kids in a different light. And hopefully you will find inspiration about how to display and showcase photos of your kids and family. Please leave me your thoughts, questions or ideas as a comment on the blog, or shoot me an email. I love the door that photography opens for connecting with other people, especially those that are as passionate about photography as I am.

Girls on the Run DC Photo Slideshow

Every year I take the best 200 or so photos from all my photographers that I have recruited to help me and make a photo slideshow.  It is my favorite part of covering this event because I get to tell the whole story of the day.

A super special thanks to my partner in crime Paige Pearson of Simple Expressions Photography. Paige has shot 5 different GOTRDC races with me and schleps all the way from Stafford, VA.  Each race she ROCKS it out of the park!  She is a fantastic photographer and friend and I could not do this without her help.

And a special thanks to my newest photog helper Ella Barnes, daughter of Fran Barnes – the GOTRDC Events Coordinator.  Ella is off to college next Fall (keeping my fingers crossed it is my alma mater;-)) where she hopes to study photography, among other things, and she did a fantastic job of capturing the race out on the course.

For those of you interested in ordering some prints check out the GOTRDC SmugMug page HERE

Elisa Hull - Wonderful slideshow, you did an amazing job capturing the day!

(Day 344) The Boy Cave

Every boy needs a sanctuary and it was my neighbor Alison who aptly named ours “The Boy Cave”.  Essentially it is the tiny room in the basement where the ceiling is too low, the video games are played, and the boys can escape and do anything in and I don’t care.  I painted one whole wall with chalkboard paint and they have stared a collection of signs to line the stairwell.

Joan Hall - I love the Biohazard sign! I’m adding that to my list of suggestions for Boy Cave posters.

(Day 343) Music

He is so into music and thankfully Matty has steered him in the right direction.
